Marriott is the largest hotel and resort chain in the world in terms of both number of units and annual revenue. Marriott currently operates under 18 hotel expressions in 57 countries, including Courtyard (#26), the Ritz-Carlton and SpringHill Suites. Its brands run across the spectrum of price, and range from traditional hotels to extended stay concepts.
In the wake of the Great Recession, Marriott—along with other leading hotel brands—has added a range of new brands including AC Hotels, largely focused on younger travelers and those interested in hipper urban neighborhoods.
To compete with booking websites like Expedia, Marriott added exclusive member rates and the ability to use its mobile app to check in and out.
