Ice cream sandwiches rule
Ice cream sandwiches made the Top 10 Foods of the Decade, according to NPD, a consumer market research group. Sure they’re No. 8, but they’re among craveable company like pizza and Mexican food.
Capitalizing on this trend is Millbrae, California-based CREAM, an acronym for “Cookies Rule Everything Around Me,” not to be confused with the song C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me” by Wu-Tang Clan, circa 1994).
The new franchise’s specialty is a scoop of homemade ice cream between two homemade cookies, with flavors far from the vanilla ice cream and messy rectangular chocolate cookie most of us associate with ice cream sandwiches. Cookies range from Snicker Doodle to lemon to white chocolate macadamia nut; and ice cream flavors include coconut pineapple, soy blueberry and banana walnut fudge. Founded in 2010, the company started franchising in 2012 and has eight units open in California’s Bay Area.
Commercially produced sandwiches, like the one pictured here, might be feeling like they’ve been creamed by the competition.
