Spinning tales at Lola Red

Published:

Creative businesses like Minneapolis-based Lola Red require a fun place to hang your shingle. The PR agency is located above a bar, next to a 24-hour gym, neighbors with a trendy boutique and Whole Foods. Plus the result of climbing two flights of stairs to get to their desks looks good on employees’ Fitbits. The layout is similar to trendy tech companies like Facebook—one large room for all. Founder Alexis Walsko rotates the art she scores from design students’ art sales between her loft down the street and the office. One long wall sports a string sculpture that employees wound themselves. They had to do something with all the nails in the wall, Walsko explains. There’s also three hula hoops, which Erica Hinchcliffe, Katarina Hedstrom and Reina Porritt graciously demonstrated; a skylight in the floor; and a pack of three dogs, of which Lily is the leader.
