Youthful energy on the Latin American trade mission
It was our idea to pose Sergio Orozco next to a Lego man on the trade mission to Latin America. At 25, Orozco, international manager for Signal 88 Security, was the youngest member of our band of merry franchisors, and thereby, willing to combine work with play. On trade missions, you have plenty of downtime while traveling from airport to airport to get to know the other participants, but not as well as when you give them the Franchise Times Personality Quiz. Here’s how Orozco answered our probing questions:
First job: In the shipping department of a hot dog factory the summer of my senior year
Dream job: COO of Global Operations for a franchise concept like Signal 88 Security
Best advice you’ve received: Learn to say NO and take responsibility for your mistakes.
Worst advice you’ve received: Fake it ‘til you make it.
Advice you give: God gave us all the same 24 hours in a day, so invest your energy not your time. Your energy is what is going to make the difference in people’s lives and make this a better place to live.
Which talent would you like to have? To speak five languages (Spanish, English, Italian, German and Mandarin Chinese)
Is your glass half-empty or half-full? Half-full!
Buy or bring your lunch to work? Buy, preferably from a franchise concept.
Office attire: Business formal, cool patterned socks and a tie in a matching color scheme
Weekend attire: Jeans and t-shirt
Signature accessory: Cool dress socks
Which actor would play you in your film biography? Wilmer Valderrama (Fez on “That ‘70s Show”)
What would you last meal be? MMM, a hamburger!!! Well done, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, mayonnaise, mustard. A tall glass of orange juice and a family-size bag of nacho cheese-flavored Doritos as my side … and cheesecake for dessert.
Mentors: Yoshino Nakajima cancer survivor, international franchising pioneer and role model and Reed Nyffeler, coach, mentor, CEO and founder of Signal 88 Security in Omaha
Describe your office decor: Souvenirs of places I visited, and family pictures
What scares you? Snakes that sneak up on you while you mow … so I moved to the city to reduce the risk of seeing a snake in its natural habitat
What motivates you? Being a role model for the people around me especially for my two little sisters. I am a first generation (from Mexico) English-as-a-second-language lifelong student, high school, college and graduate school graduate, so if I can do it so can they.
