Company Description

Long John Silver’s is a seafood restaurant company in the U.S., offering platters, sandwiches and various single items, like fish, shrimp and hushpuppies. The company has a few dozen international units and is often co-located with restaurants such as A&W, Taco Bell and KFC.

The first location was opened in Lexington, Kentucky, in 1969 by Jim Patterson, who was inspired by a fish and chips meal he had on a coastal vacation. It has more than 900 locations in 43 states and Canada, and is owned by LJS Partners LLC, a group consisting of Long John Silver’s franchisees, making it about 80 percent franchise-owned.

Long John Silver’s has faced recent financial difficulties, with sales declining by 36 percent from 2012 to 2018.
