Cypress Group Wrapping 'Crazy' Year of Deals
“We had three deals close last week and five are closing this week,” said Dean Zuccarello, CEO and founding partner of The Cypress Group in Denver. We reached him this week, right before Christmas. “It’s just been a little crazy.”
Cypress is an investment banker that puts together a variety of sophisticated deals for clients, such as advising GPS Hospitality, owned by former Arby’s chief Tom Garrett, in acquiring 42 Burger King restaurants in Atlanta from the corporation.
Zuccarello calls this year “more active than the last couple” for his firm, and he believes worries about rising tax rates caused many people thinking about exiting their businesses to do so.
More important, in his view, is that people who invest in restaurants decided this is the new normal. “We’re not going to cry in our milk anymore. We’re going to get moving,” he said.
