Editor joins Minnesota District Export Council
Executive Editor Nancy Weingartner has been appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce to the Minnesota District Export Council (DEC), a private, non-profit organization of international business people who provide guidance and assistance on international markets to local businesses in conjunction with the U.S. Commercial Service office.
“The Minnesota District Export Council's members provide expertise on exporting to support and augment the U.S. Commercial Service’s efforts to help more Minnesota companies sell internationally,” according to the Commercial Service Director for the Minnesota office, Ryan Kanne.
At Weingartner’s first meeting, the Minnesota DEC was re-presented with the DEC of the Year for 2013. Previously, Sandy Renner, chair of the local DEC, accepted the award at the 2013 National DEC Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. There are currently 59 DECs in the U.S. The Minneapolis group was singled out for its work in 2013, which included hosting two national conferences, Accessing the Western Hemisphere and Gateway to Europe, developing quality content for a website that attracts an average of 15,000 unique visitors a month and is licensed to several other DECs across the country and imprelementing an export mentoring initiative.
The councils’ mission, according to the national website, is to “encourage and support exports of goods and services that strengthen individual companies, stimulate U.S. economic growth and create jobs.”
