12 Newcomers Make FT's Exclusive Fast & Serious List

Sky Zone's Jeff Platt ranked No. 2 on last year's Fast & Serious list, published in March, our ranking of the 40 smartest-growing brands.

Twelve newcomers appear on the new Fast & Serious list, our annual ranking of the 40 smartest-growing franchises, based on a nine-point, proprietary formula. We’ll publish the ranking in March, but here’s a sneak peak.

We’ve got a new No. 1 company, displacing the two-years-in-a-row top dog, Menchie’s Frozen Yogurt, which moved well down the list. Two companies make the top five for the first time, and four new brands make numbers 6 through 10.

Restaurant brands are the biggest category on the list, with 19, but at least five other sectors (depending on how you categorize them) are well represented, too.

Health and wellness has five on the smartest-growing list; consumer and business services has six. Fitness, education and home healthcare each makes a nice showing as well.
