Drive-thru's a Hit for Which Wich, with Plans to Add More

A test of a drive-thru at Which Wich is a hit, so much so that the sandwich chain is looking to add two more drive-thru locations this year and more after that.

Russ Edwards owns the pilot drive-thru in Marble Falls, Texas, and he built out the store from the ground up. He’d been with the brand since 2010 and knew the typical model wouldn’t work because of parking limitations, plus the site had excellent front and back access he wanted to capitalize upon.

So he pitched the drive-thru idea, a first for Which Wich, and although hesitant at first  execs gave the go-ahead. Since he opened in July 2013, Edwards says the restaurant runs 25 to 35 percent of total sales through the drive-thru, and figures about 20 percent of those customers would not have come inside the store.

He’s seen an increase when the weather is bad—rainy, windy or cold—and a bump during afternoons when families are trying to get a quick bite without unloading the kids from the car.

The second Which Wich drive-thru location will open in Crystal Lake, Illinois, this summer, then a third in Tallahassee before the end of the year. “Sky’s the limit on how many more,” a spokesman said.
