Massage Heights Adds The Gents Place to Stable

Published:

Shane Evans is president of Massage Heights, which has just purchased The Gents Place and will begin franchising it this month.

I had the opportunity to interview Shane Evans, president of Massage Heights, while at the International Franchise Association annual convention in February, for an upcoming story. At that time she was not quite ready to announce her family-owned brand’s new acquisition. Now the news is out about the purchase of The Gents Place.

At the Franchise Times Finance & Growth Conference today, CEO Glenn Franson described The Gents Place, founded by Ben Davis. It’s a luxury grooming concept for men. “Our purpose is to bring back the gentleman,” said Ben Davis, in a video.

Massage Heights is a family-owned company based in San Antonio, co-founded by Shane Evans and her husband, Wayne Evans; Franson is Shane Evans’ brother. They’ve just added a holding company called Elevated Brands, with Massage Heights, The Gents Place and Summit Franchise Supply, the arm that distributes the products, under its umbrella.

There are four clubs operating so far, doing between $1 million and $1.4 million in sales, Franson said. They’ll begin to franchise this month, and Franson noted potential pitfalls in getting involved in a brand with only four stores, but he notes Massage Heights has built 140 stores, so that experience will be useful.

The Franchise Times Finance & Growth Conference continues through tomorrow noon, at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
