Greene Turtle Thinks Casino-Based Model Is Good Bet
The Greene Turtle just opened in Hollywood Casino in Perryville, Maryland, owned by a franchisee.
The Greene Turtle has opened its first casino-based restaurant at the Hollywood Casino in Perryville, Maryland, along with a new, 24-hour fast-casual eatery called Greene Turtle Express. Tom Finn believes the firsts for the company hold promise for more such expansion.
“We’re excited about it. As you know, the casual segment is under some pressure, so you have to be faster, smarter, better than you were and hopefully others as well,” said Finn, vice president of franchise development for the Columbia, Maryland-based franchise. “We’re beginning to reach out to the casino category, and share with them what our offering is.”
The Greene Turtle has 46 locations in Maryland, Washington, D.C., New York, New Jersey, West Virginia, Virginia and Delaware. The restaurant at Hollywood Casino is 5,200 square feet, and casino customers will be able to use their comps and casino perks in both the full-service restaurant and Greene Turtle Expess, which Finn said is a must when working with casinos.
Traditional Greene Turtles feature photos of local professional, college and even high school athletes, depending on the city. Hollywood Casino, he says, “has the old-time Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis feel, so we tried to carry that forward, so great old pictures, very large graphics on the wall. We had some good old shots of two guys boxing,” Finn says.
