Vintage ads: Benihana
This employment ad for Benihana of Tokyo is sheer poetry. In case youdon't have your reading glasses handy (check the top of your head), here's some of the clever verbiage:
"To join an organization that's become a legend, a man has always needed one quality above all else. Talent. Sheer talent. After all, to join Robin Hood's Merry Men you had to be a brilliant archer....Well, to join Benihana you have to be a brilliant entertainer. To say nothing of being a brilliant chef.
Take the preparation of hibachi steak....To a Benihana chef, a sirloin is a co-star. He's got to make his public cheer as his knife dances with it. As he hurls mushrooms at it. And rains sesame seeds on it....Is it any wonder that every man who puts on the uniform of a Benihana chef seems to burst with pride?"
We don't know when this ad appeared, but we're pretty sure it was before employment.
