27 Eric Little, senior VP for Right at Home, apologized for his “very long answer” to our question: Describe the single factor most responsible for making this list. But we like his answer a lot. Here goes, with a slightly shortened version:
A Right at Home staffer offers in-home assistance to a senior. A “long-term perspective” is the reason for success, its senior VP says.
“Right at Home is unique in that we have a board of directors and senior management team that believes strongly in having a long-term perspective. It provides a great foundation to build from. Without that long-term perspective, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers of any particular month or quarter. We still watch those numbers very closely, but it’s the long-term perspective that has allowed us to test new lead generation sources that have reduced our dependence on franchise brokers.
“It’s the long-term perspective that allowed us to build a great sales team from the ground up that didn’t have prior franchise sales experience. That long-term perspective also allows our salespeople to work with candidates to make the right decision regarding business ownership, even if that decision is to keep their job or look at another business.
“We do this because we know that when we set very accurate expectations about the business up front, people make good, informed decisions and they are more likely to enjoy a good outcome as a result of their business ownership experience. Plus, our turnover rate will stay low, and we’ll end up with tenured owners who stay in the business longer.” Well said, Mr. Little.
