Last Call for Dealmakers Entrants as Past Winner Strikes Again

Elie Khoury, center, CEO of KFK Group and a past Franchise Times Dealmakers award winner, is shown at the awards ceremony in April 2017 with two advisers.

Elie Khoury, one of FT’s Dealmakers of the Year award winners in 2017, is back at it with an acquisition of 18 Taco Bell corporate restaurants in New Orleans and other southern Louisiana cities. The news provides the perfect reason to point out that nominations for this year’s project are due by year end and can be made via the Dealmakers button on the home page.

Franchise Times Dealmakers is an annual project designed to recognize excellence in mergers and acquisitions in the franchise space, and report best practices about how the best in the business land their new investors.

“Taco Bell is not only a classic but also an innovator,” said Khoury about his most recent deal announced December 13. He is president and CEO of KFK Group, a sister company of Southeast Restaurant Group that purchased the restaurants.

The group adds the stores to those it picked up from corporate in 2016, beating out stiff competition from other interested partners to become a first-time franchisee of Taco Bell.

“Not to copy Donald Trump, but we went through extreme vetting” in order to get the first round of stores, Khoury told Franchise Times when accepting his Dealmakers award last spring. “It was what you’d call thorough, times two.” His companies have extensive holdings including hotels and restaurants.

Nominations are open through December 31 at franchisetimes.com/dealmakers, and open to private equity firms, management teams, individuals, advisers and other players with mergers and acquisitions involving franchises that closed between July 1, 2016, through Dec. 31, 2017.

Judges select winners in January, with all winners covered in the April issue of Franchise Times and honored at an awards luncheon at Franchise Times Finance & Growth Conference in May. For questions, contact Editor-in-Chief Beth Ewen, bewen@franchisetimes.com.
