Doc Popcorn Scooped Up by Dippin' Dots
Dippin’ Dots Franchising scooped up gourmet popcorn franchisor Doc Popcorn this week, and the co-founder of the latter believes each will boost sales of the other.
“We sit in similar categories, but the dayparts are different and the seasonalities are different,” says Rob Israel, CEO of Doc Popcorn. “It gives our franchisees a bigger opportunity and a larger platform, and the same with them.”
The acquisition will fuel major growth for Doc Popcorn, Israel believes. “We think it can be pretty dramatic. These guys have over 10,000 outlets,” he says, referring to Dippin’Dots. “We have roughly 100.”
Scott Fischer, Dippin’ Dots president, bought that brand a couple of years ago and is on the hunt for other snack food franchises to add to the portfolio.
The Doc Popcorn business will be operated out of Dippin’ Dots headquarters in Paducah, Kentucky. Doc Popcorn plans to maintain a presence in its hometown of Boulder, Colorado.
