IFA Adds Veep Job to Boost 'Zee Recruitment
The International Franchise Association is serious about recruiting more franchisees as members—so serious it’s adding a new position: vice president of franchisee engagement and industry relations.
The ideal candidate “will be the primary advocate for franchisee interests within the organization and serve as a champion to ensure the franchisee voice is consistently heard,” reads the job description, which was mentioned at the IFA’s annual convention in late February and officially approved this week.
The IFA has long been seen as advocating solely for franchisors, but that’s changing, said Matt Heller, vice president for public affairs and chief of staff. His staff has been enlisting franchisees to meet with legislators in their home states, to lobby against new bills seeking to regulate franchising, for example.
Franchisees are gaining high-level positions at the IFA. Jeff Tews, a BrightStar franchisee, is the new chairman of the IFA Franchisee Forum, and he was integral in crafting the new job description. Aziz Hashim, the mega-franchisee based in Atlanta, will take over the chairman role in 2016, one of only a handful of franchisees to hold that position.
