In a World Divided, Anytime Fitness Finds Common Truth
Squats in Spain, which are not universally loathed, according to Anytime Fitness.
Anytime Fitness will open its 4,000th gym March 16 in Shanghai, China, and then will pursue plans to open at least one new gym in Antarctica, which if achieved would make it the first franchise in history with locations on all seven continents.
That’s according to Mark Daly, national media director, who has produced a video in celebration that answers the burning question: In our divided world, is there anything on which all people can agree?
Shot in 12 different countries and showing people working out at their local Anytime Fitness club, the clever video begins with the bad news. “Different homelands. Different backgrounds. Different histories. It may seem we have little in common, But in truth, we’re more alike than we realize,” the video says.
The common denominator? “We all hate burpees,” goes the punchline. Congratulations to Anytime Fitness, a Minnesota-headquartered brand, on a remarkable milestone reached in a mere 16 years (only Subway was quicker, selling 4,000 stores in 15 years).
And you’re right about those loathsome burpees. (That’s where you squat with your hands on the floor, kick your legs back, return your feet to a squat, then jump into the air. Try it, you'll hate it.)
