Two Dealmakers Winners, PizzaRev and QK, Join Forces

Fast-casual chain PizzaRev captured Deal of the Year in the 2013 Franchise Times Dealmakers project.

Ever wonder if attending conferences is worthwhile? Irv Zuckerman, CEO of PizzaRev, is a believer.

Two winners in Franchise Times’ Dealmakers project last year—Zuckerman of PizzaRev and Doug Koch of QK Inc.—have now teamed up to do business together.

Koch, a long-time Denny’s franchisee with 90 Denny’s and six Del Tacos across eight states, signed on to add PizzaRev stores in and around Denver.

Koch joins four other new PizzaRev franchisees in Washington, D.C., New York, Las Vegas and Columbus, who are expected to open some 40 franchise locations across the markets.

They include many heavy hitters: Mo Sawda, former managing director of international development for Buffalo Wild Wings; Chuck Kwon, former operator of six Buffalo Wild Wings; Tom McDonald, who operates 27 Burger Kings and nine Panera Breads; and Denny’s operators Thomas Pilbeam and Jack Thompson.

Zuckerman said both he and Koch attended the Franchise Finance & Growth Conference in Las Vegas last March, presented by Franchise Times, and received Franchise Times Dealmakers awards at the event.

He’s a fan of the face-to-face event. “The networking available at your spring conference is second to none, because it gave us the opportunity to make great friends,” he told Franchise Times.

PIzzaRev’s new franchisees “recognize the tremendous opportunity to bring the best fast-casual pizza experience to their respective markets,” Zuckerman said.

Nominations are now open for this year’s Franchise Times Dealmakers project, designed to highlight bold deals in franchising. Click the Dealmakers button at www.franchisetimes.com.
