Private-Sector Franchise Businesses Add 38K Jobs in December
Following a healthy holiday shopping season and a continued succession of positive economic indicators, ADP reported in its National Franchise Report that the franchise industry added 38,000 jobs in the U.S. during the month of December.
Included in the report is a significant nugget for the food service industry: restaurants added double the number of jobs compared with November, a total of 24,050 new jobs. Auto parts and dealers were the second brightest spot, adding 5,720 new jobs for the month.
Other notables include business services adding 2,990, accommodations adding 2,790, while food retailers lost 120 positions and franchised real estate shed 430 jobs.
Digging further into the report, building material and garden equipment added 20 jobs, gas stations and auto repair adding 210, leisure adding 440, personal care retailers added 420 and franchise-related education added 320 jobs.
The ADP National Franchise Report is an extension of the ADP National Employment report measuring monthly changes in franchise employment derived from ADP’s actual transactional payroll data. The data is produced by ADP in collaboration with Moody’s Analytics, Inc. and is published by the ADP Research Institute.
