Great Clips' CEO Reveals What's in a Name
It's Rhoda Olsen, not Rhonda Olson
When your last name is Olsen, rather than the more common Olson, you’re used to a lot of misspellings.
That was the case for Rhoda Olsen, CEO of Great Clips in Minneapolis, at a recent panel discussion hosted by Faegre Baker Daniels in Minneapolis. Her last name appeared in the program incorrectly.
But it gets worse for Olsen, because her twin sister is named Rhonda, and sure enough this same program called her by her twin’s first name.
“Can you imagine someone naming their twin daughters Rhoda and Rhonda?” Olsen said with a laugh, tacitly forgiving the misprint. The organizers quickly corrected the slide to show the right names on the screen.
Olsen is one of our favorite franchise bosses because she tends to tell it like it is. “As you get large, one of the things you forget is the people actually delivering the services every day,” in her franchise’s case, the hair stylists at their 3,600 salons. “And the fact is you don’t do s*** in the home office.”
